The files we take, and what we do with them
GLB, GLTF, FBX or CAD. Here's what you can upload, what happens to it on the way in, and when it's quicker to let us build the model.

"What file do you need?" is usually the first question. The short answer is: probably the one you already have.
What you can upload
- GLB and GLTF, the standard formats for 3D on the web.
- FBX, common from 3D artists and most modelling tools.
- CAD, imported for products that start life in engineering.
Inside a product, assets come in three types: models, materials and textures. A sofa might be one base model, a few materials for fabric and leather, and the textures that go with them.
What happens on the way in
When you upload, Amaspace asks how to compress the assets, per file or for the whole batch. Textures are converted to formats that load fast on the web, and compression is tuned so the product opens quickly on a phone without looking soft on a laptop.
If you have a lot of models, batch conversion processes them together instead of one at a time.
Changing your mind later
Models get updated: a new leg design, a revised hull. You can replace the base model of a product without losing the options, rules and prices already built on top of it.
Or don't upload anything
Not every team has 3D files, and not every file is ready for a configurator. You can also start from a ready model in our library, or request a model from our team. We build it from your photos, specs or CAD, and you approve it before it goes live.
Where it stops
A file that's wrong at the source stays wrong. The most common issue is scale: we work at one unit to one metre, so AR shows the true size. Fix it in your modelling tool before upload, or tell us and we'll correct it in the scene.
Next step
Upload one model to a trial workspace and see how it comes through. If it doesn't look right, send it to us and we'll tell you why.
