Boat Configurator Guide – Build, Customize & Share with Amaspace

September 9, 2025 20min read

Creating a fully functional boat configurator may seem like a complex task, but with Amaspace the process is structured, intuitive, and highly customizable. This guide walks through each step of building a configurator — from product setup and asset management to customization logic, scene editing, and final customer features like PDF generation and AR preview.

1. Creating the Product

We begin by creating a new product in the Product Editor. Using the creation pop-up, you can define the product name, base price, and tags, and upload the base 3D model of the boat. This model becomes the foundation of your configurator.

2. Uploading Assets

Next, additional assets such as engines and optional equipment are uploaded through the Assets tab. Before uploading, Amaspace prompts you to apply compression settings individually or globally, ensuring assets are optimized for web performance (textures are converted to efficient formats like WebP).

3. Organizing Attributes and Categories

Inside the Product Editor, we structure the customization options.

  • Categories act as folders that group related features.
  • Attributes define what can be customized (e.g., engines, packages, or colors).
  • PCOs (Product Customization Options) are the actual selectable options the customer sees.

Attributes and PCOs are managed in a hierarchical tree in the left sidebar. The right sidebar displays detailed settings for whichever element is selected, such as display names, pricing, tags, and default options. The central viewport shows the 3D model in real time, allowing you to link attributes directly to model parts using the Part Picker.

4. Fixing Base Model Conflicts

When configuring engines, we first created a Single attribute but switched it to a Part Reference attribute so multiple engine models could be swapped dynamically. If a base model includes static parts (like a pre-attached engine), they can be hidden in the 3D Editor. This ensures PCOs control visibility properly.

5. Adding Color Options

A new category called Colors is created to manage trim, hull, panel, and furniture accent colors. For each attribute, materials are uploaded via the Asset Library and then linked to the correct mesh in the model using the Part Picker. This allows customers to change each area independently.

6. Scene Setup in the 3D Editor

The 3D Editor is where environment and technical model settings are adjusted.

  • Configure the Configurator camera to set the initial view customers will see.
  • Add water shaders, adjust animation speed, water height, and quality.
  • Enable float animation for realistic rocking on the water.
  • Turn on the sky environment to complete the marine scene.

7. Testing the Configurator

In preview mode, all options can be tested. Single attributes toggle features like the ski tow or tourism package. Engines switch correctly between models. Color attributes update live, and when initial issues arose, they were resolved by resetting default material colors in the Material Editor, which controls base material properties like color and textures.

8. Generating a PDF Quote

Once the configurator is working, customers can export their selections as a PDF summary. With one click, a polished PDF is generated including all selected options, their prices, and contact details. This document acts as a ready-to-share quote for customers and dealers.

9. AR Preview

Finally, the configurator supports a fully functional AR mode. Customers can scan a QR code and instantly view their configured boat in real scale using their phone or tablet. This immersive feature boosts buyer confidence by placing the product directly into their environment.

Conclusion

With Amaspace, setting up a detailed configurator is straightforward: you define products, upload assets, configure attributes and PCOs, fine-tune the 3D scene, and deliver a complete experience to your customers. From interactive 3D previews to PDF quotes and AR, the entire journey is covered — turning product visualization into a powerful sales tool.
